Main Types of Aquarium Water Pumps
There are two main types of aquarium water pumps based on how they are installed inside the tank. These two types are the submersible and the in-line pumps. As its name suggests, a submersible water pump can be installed and run underwater, protected only by a sump pit.
Such a pump is easy to install as there is no need for any sort of drilling. Being completely underwater, this type of pump also operates more quietly. In-line water pumps are installed out of the water. It is connected to an inlet and outlet hose. Though noisier, it has the air cooled benefit.
Being air cooled, it does not add heat into the tank water. An in-line pump is also popular for being able to circulate larger amounts of water every hour. It can be configured by either of two setups: free flow or pressure.
