Literal Desktop Computing
Computers are becoming less and less hindered by the need for space. There are still plenty of bulky CRT monitors in circulation, but more and more these are being replaced by flatter and flatter monitors. Some are nearly as thin as a book.
One of the emerging technologies involves turning a desktop into an actual touchscreen monitor, whereon icons can be moved by using the fingers. The desktop monitor, by itself, is fascinating enough, but has broader implications. The idea of being able to consolidate space by turning anything, be it a wall or a car dashboard into a monitor is pretty amazing. This could be extremely helpful in places and professions where space is limited but computers are still very important.
